First Roper Home Established 1939
Our family has a long history of agriculture in the Melissa and Anna, Tx. area. I am now the fourth generation continuing in the work of agriculture.
My great grandfather built the Roper farmhouse around 1939 in the Melissa area. The farm is still owned and operated by family.
My grandfather raised Hereford cattle and established the Flying R Broken Wing brand. We have maintained the same brand name for our small farm in Howe, Texas. My wife Jill, along with our children, Jacob and Jenna, maintain 30 acres of pastureland as well as leased land. My dad continued with a portion of my grandfather’s herd. Soon after my dad obtained the cattle, an experience with the service provided by a local veterinarian sparked a desire to learn more. The veterinarian took the time to explain and teach. This experience with the cattle developed a passion for science and medicine. The excitement to learn further lead me to pursue employment with another local veterinarian during high school. After graduating high school, I attended Tarleton State University in Stephenville, Texas where I earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Animal Science. During the time in Stephenville, I continued furthering my knowledge by working for a veterinary clinic in Dublin, Texas. After graduating from Tarleton, my interest in medicine lead me to pursue a degree in pharmacy. I obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in pharmacy from Southwestern Oklahoma State University. After completing the degree, I practiced pharmacy for 20 years primarily in the hospital setting. Since then, he has returned to his passion and interest in the welfare and production of quality beef. Our primary mission is to develop further as a local source for quality meat. Sunrise Farm Fresh Meats was established from Flying R Broken Wing Ranch in Howe, Texas. We are a small family-owned business that strives to bring quality meats to our family, friends, and neighbors. We currently stock beef and pork products to help you create a family meal for all to enjoy.
